The Approved Inspection Authority, conducts investigations and audit inspections on behalf of the Department of Labour and the general public and makes special findings as to:
The law holds the user or lessor of an electrical installation (as the case may be)
personally responsible for the safety, safe use and maintenance of the electrical
installation that the user or lessor uses.
The provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 stipulate that subject to Section 10(4), an electrical installation may not be marketed or sold unless the safety requirements have been complied with. In other words, a valid Certificate of Compliance must be produced in the sale process.
A Certificate of Compliance which is (2) two years and older may however not be provided under any circumstances for a transfer of a property.
